Anti-Virus, Firewall, and Security Software Configuration Guide

Overview

PokerTracker 4 periodically connects to a registration server to validate and update your registration, and it relies on PostgreSQL — the database server that stores your hand history — running on the same machine. Anti-virus, firewall, or other security software can block either of these connections, which shows up as registration failures or PostgreSQL connectivity errors.

Most security software lets you grant specific programs an exception to your general rules. The steps below apply to any firewall or anti-virus product. If you still have trouble after following them, contact PokerTracker Support.

General Firewall Troubleshooting

Look in your security software for a section named Program Control, Application Control, or similar, and grant full inbound and outbound access to these four programs:

  • C:\Program Files\PokerTracker 4\PokerTracker4.exe
  • C:\Program Files\PokerTracker 4\PokerTrackerHud4.exe
  • C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\x.x\bin\pg_ctl.exe
  • C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\x.x\bin\postgres.exe

(x.x is the version of PostgreSQL installed on your computer.)

tip

Restart your computer after adding the exceptions so the changes take effect.

If problems continue, your security software may also flag PokerTracker as a false positive or block PostgreSQL from installing. Make sure your virus definitions are current, then temporarily disable the security software to confirm it's the cause — if PokerTracker works with it disabled, add the four exceptions above (or consult your vendor's support site for how to add exceptions in their product). PokerTracker downloaded from the official website is clean; report any false positive to your anti-virus vendor.
